IT’S GOOD NEWS FOR TECH AND INNOVATION IN 2025

It’s amazing to work alongside the companies driving innovation and reshaping the way we live, work and play in the UK, and looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to see that it’s set to be a bumper year for early-stage investment. As a PR agency for tech and innovation, that means we’ll be telling some pretty cool stories in the year ahead.

According to Forbes, startup funding is already off to a flying start this year, with tech company Synthesia raising over $180million dollars in venture capital in January. Whilst the multi digit raises may be the ones that hit the headlines, the smaller deals are the ones that are keeping the UK and Europe’s innovation engine going, and analysts are optimistic that these startups will receive a healthy dollop of capital to continue their ambitions to change the world.

The UK is a pretty good place to be a PR agency for tech and innovation. What has come across loud and clear in conversations with our clients is that the last two years of fundraising have forced a focus on business health. Yes, we have all had to tighten our belts, but working with client teams who are focused and diligent in making our PR really work hard for them, that’s a good thing.

Whilst AI is dominating much of what is reported, there are many other buoyant sectors like sustainability, healthcare, robotics and finance with fast-growing startups and scaleups set to solve some pretty complex, gritty and occasionally unusual problems.

We’ve pulled out a few  innovators who we believe are set to inspire in 2025.

AI: SnapEdit, AI-powered Online Photo Editing

SnapEdit is a top-notch AI-powered photo editing app designed to simplify and enhance your editing experience, where you can effortlessly refine your photos, remove distractions, improve image quality, and craft beautiful visuals that transform everyday images into the most professional shots.

HealthTech: Kriya Therapeutics, Inc., Biopharmaceuticals

Kriya is a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing transformative gene therapies for conditions that impact millions globally. Their mission is to make gene therapies widely accessible, ensuring that these advancements are available to more than just a select few.

The team at Kriya consists of pioneering drug developers, including experts in genetic medicine, clinical research and complex biologics. The company recently secured $150 million in Series C funding, bringing its total funding to a whopping $430 million.

Robotics: Muddy Machines, AI Powered Agribusiness

The agriculture industry faces rising costs and labour shortages and autonomous harvesting technologies offer a practical solution.

Muddy Machines has created an AI-powered asparagus harvester that works autonomously in fields and polytunnels, for up to 16 hours a day. It selectively harvests mature spears, leaving younger ones to grow, while also predicting yields and providing real-time reports. This electric harvester reduces noise and environmental impact, and through its Robots-as-a-Service model, Muddy Machines helps farmers manage labour-intensive crops more efficiently.

FinTech: SuperFi, Social Impact FinTech

SuperFi launched in 2024 to help people with low financial resilience manage their income, and this social impact, FinTech startup has already secured deals with three London Councils – Newham, Haringey and Tower Hamlets. Together, SuperFi and these London councils will offer a first-of-a-kind scheme that rewards residents with cashback for paying their bills on time.

The initiative is funded by the Greater London Authority’s Tackling Poverty Challenge and is being rolled out nationally this Spring. Founders Tom Barltrop and Nick Spiller won our Communication Accelerator Programme in 2024 when we spotted the incredible life-changing potential of the technology.

Sustainability: Biohm, Nature Inspired Research and Development

To enable the shift towards circularity, Biohm is a research and development company that has brought together scientists, designers, engineers and business innovators to literally rethink the way we innovate, and they’re using nature as their guide. From materials to manufacturing, this group of incredibly clever and visionary people will have a real effect on our future, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
