TECH FOR GOOD STARTUPS NEED PRO BONO PR AND MARKETING
Back in January we blogged about 2020 being a new start for UK businesses. “2020 is going to be a very different year for the UK”, we predicted. Little did we know how scarily true that statement would come to be.
The year that the world went into lockdown and we all faced challenges that we’ve never faced before, but amidst those challenges we saw innovation come to the forefront. We were – and still are – truly inspired by the number of stories we read in the media and on LinkedIn of individuals and businesses who took charge. Startups emerged, businesses pivoted, and communities pulled together.
Danielle, Director of Loud, our social media arm, signed up as a Covid Tech Support volunteer at the start of lockdown – a platform set up to offer free support for nonprofits and communities tackling Covid-19 – and was contacted by Tandem Project to offer strategic support. Tandem Project matches Tech for Good projects and nonprofits with marketers who can provide small pro bono support across strategy and/or execution and the project has been doing some amazing work that we think deserves a massive shout out.
Tandem Project was set up by Ruko Kuga in May as a nonprofit passion project during lockdown. She saw an opportunity in connecting a group of marketers with potential spare time and small organisations that are lacking in resources and funding.
Through Tandem Project, marketers have helped cause driven startups like walking app, Go Jauntly, which has received support in launching a new feature to help people’s mental health during lockdown; Silver Sharers, a startup platform connecting age 50+ homeowners with mid-long term lodgers is receiving help with their paid social media strategy; and Tactical Space, a database for finding examples of tactical COVID-19 measures in urban infrastructure around cities across the world has received support in social media and content marketing.
These are just a few of the valuable initiatives and Tech for Good startups that Tandem Project is working with and as we begin to return to ‘normal’, they still have projects that need marketing support including social media, content, SEO, PPC, branding, and PR. So if you are furloughed or freelancing, it’s well worth taking a look to see if you could expand your skills whilst giving back to the community at the same time.
