Client Snapshot: SmugMug UK consumer launch
At the end of July, Cherish were proud to introduce US photography platform pioneers SmugMug to the UK for its consumer launch. SmugMug offers consumers safe and secure storage of their photographic memories by protecting them with Amazon Web Services, the leader in safe online backup. For both still and video images, SmugMug enables users to keep memories completely private or share them with their loved ones or the public.
Used by professional photographers worldwide the amateur in all of us can now display our pictorial creativity in the same way. Photographers have always found ways to share their passion, work, and inspiration with each other. SmugMug was born from a mission to support the community the team were already a part of. By the early 2000s, digital photography was overtaking film and tens of millions of digital cameras were producing billions of photos that needed a home. Photographers needed a place online that was tailor-made for them—a place where they could stand out, shine, and share.
SmugMug built systems to keep billions of them securely in the cloud so they’d be safe forever—safe in every sense of the word: their pixels and bytes, access, controls, and rights. In addition, the team built a service that any photographer, anywhere in the world, could use to showcase their photos beautifully with ease.
In August Cherish commissioned a survey on behalf of SmugMug which found that Brits take over 600 million pictures per week! Furthermore, around 1 in 5 snappers has lost photographs due to a broken device, 5% to a stolen device and around 3 in 10 do not currently back up their photography at all. Therefore the resolution to all our photo storage woes lies with SmugMug. Cherish placed website reviews with the well-respected tech and consumer media such as Web User and Pro Traveller as well as advice features with Woman’s Own amongst others.
