Top Summer Beauty Trends 2018 Round-Up

The changing of seasons usually pairs with a style transition. Summer is a time to not only transform your wardrobe (hello shorts and summer dresses) but also give your beauty routine an overhaul. Below we take a look at some of the top summer beauty trends, from make-up to hair and skincare.

Cosmetics

The ‘no make-up’ make up

First up in a beauty trends round-up is a bold move. Put the eyeliner down. This trend is a classic look suited to the warmer weather. This au natural look requires wearing make-up to seem as if you are carelessly, flawlessly make-up free. Think sheeny skin, rosy cheeks and messy brows.

Bold, bright eyes

Hot on the SS18 catwalks, big, bold and colourful eye make-up is a big trend for the summer. From neon pink eyeshadow to turquoise eyeliner, the rule is the brighter the better.

Glitter & rhinestones

Its festival season, so it is inevitable a touch of cosmetic theatrics are bang on trend. Rhinestone decoration on lips are a key look for summer 2018, with unusual glitter make up for the eyes. Basically, get creative!

Skin Care

Conscious consumption

Now this is a trend everyone should jump on board with. With consumer’s awareness heightened around the effects of packaging, plastic and microbeads on the environment, the demand for plastic free or plant based packaged products is on the rise. Harpers Bazaar has a great guide on brands who are part of the new sustainable beauty movement here. For a great microbead-free alternative, we have fallen in love with Herbivore Botanicals Pink Clay mask (pictured).

Face serums

Face serums are seriously popular this summer. Smaller monocles means serums penetrate more deeply into the skin and can be chock-full of moisturising ingredients to help skin retain moisture and stay hydrated. One application a day is all it takes!

Skin gadgets

We don’t often connect the words ‘technology’ and ‘skincare’ in our minds, but there are a number of new beauty gadgets in the market this summer. Foreo’s clever UFO device gives you a quality facial in just seconds and Dr Dennis Gross’ SpectraLite EyeCare Pro LED is a futuristic eye mask that promises rested, revived and youthful looking eyes.

Hair

The perm

Forget the granny stereotype – the retro perm is back. Tight curls and waves featured big on SS18 catwalks and red carpets, with everyone from model Marjan Jonkman to actor Emma Stone to sporting a permanent wave. The perm has been developed so the process takes less noxious chemicals then in the past!

Headscarfs

The perfect accessory for all those open top car journeys, the 90’s bandana has returned. The versatile style spans from urban chic to royal sensibility to land girl practicality. It could be the ultimate accessory! Check out Who What Wear’s guide to styling the headscarf here.

Scrunchies

Influencers are today’s trend setters and one thing they are agreeing on this summer – scrunchies are officially cool again. The iconic 80’s accessory also featured on the run way in Balenciaga’s 2018 resort collection. However 2018’s scrunchies have undergone a luxury makeover, with styles now in silk and leather. The Free People Milano Scrunchie gets our seal of approval for sleek design, perfect for the office and weekend trips away.

One thing is clear, summer is the perfect time to get creative with your beauty routines and try out something new, whether it be a swanky new piece of beauty technology, or simply a bold new eye shadow and a touch of glitter. Hope you enjoyed reading our summer beauty trends round-up, feel free to let us know your go-to seasonal must have!
